This is a gripping story with great characters that touches on themes of loneliness, family and belonging. Sarah Crossan is known for writing novels in poetry form, with her most famous book ‘One’ about conjoined twins. In ‘Toffee’ she looks at themes of loneliness, family and belonging. Alison is not safe at home and decides to run. Finding a shed in the garden of an abandoned house seems great luck until she realises someone lives there. Its the home of an elderly woman, Maria. Touching and thought-provoking it’s a great read. Highly recommended.
